BOOK REVIEW

PART I:  "What's a Girl to Do While Waiting for Mr. Right?"  By:  Janet L. Folger
First, this book is written for women, but virtually ALL of its content are of benefit to men as well.  This particular book review will probably be an ongoing discussion for me. But I am currently reading some books on singleness, and maybe sharing some of my thoughts and inspiring quotes/reviews will help some. I do know that I have to stay busy in the work of God, that's what I am going to do while waiting.
NOTEWORTHY HIGHLIGHTS:  "You are alone now...like me....because God has something He wants you to do. Something so critically important to His mission that Satan has to come up with a way to stop it. Make no mistake: Satan will pull out every stop to prevent what he knows you could do for the kingdom of God. I'm talking about the big guns here---the rocket launchers designed to debilitate even the most faithful soldiers in God's army:

* You are all alone

* God has forgotten you

* He has abandoned you

* You're a failure

* A loser

*Nobody wants you and maybe nobody ever will

* Look around you - everyone else is happy except for you

Does any of that sound familiar? Pretty harsh stuff, but remember this is war. If you couldn't be used so mightily Satan wouldn't have to go after you so fiercely. The trouble is when you're under attack, all those lies sound true...absolutely convincing and seemingly irrefutable.

The only thing worse than waiting on God is wishing you had waited on him. The good news is we don't have to sit around waiting. When we obey God, rather than believing the lies, not only will He use us mightily, He will also take away the misery of waiting. Its the difference between sitting on the bench watching the clock and actually playing in the game. There's no doubt which goes by faster. While we're waiting for God to send along Mr. Right, we need to get in the game of life."

"If you find that Satan is stealing your joy, pray for joy. As you submit to God's timing, ask Him to give you joy in the meantime--joy right now--when things aren't as you'd like them to be. There are a lot of good things about being single. Ask God to remind you of them--right now. Pray for fun, for laughter, for balance, and most of all for joy. That's what I'm doing, and its working."

"We all know what we're looking for. At the top of my list is the great non-negotiable: a strong Christian leader. Remember the whole submission thing? Well, if I'm going to submit to someone, I want to make sure he's close to God and following His will. Without that, any marriage is headed down the wrong path. I want someone who prays with me in the middle of an argument. Someone who gives godly counsel---even if it goes against what I'd rather hear--without tearing me down."
"Choose God's long-term plan for your life over whatever carrot Satan may dangle in front of you for the short term. The wrong {person} even if {he/she} provides short term fun, is still the wrong person. No matter how much time you have invested, if they're not the right one, walk away so God can give you the right one. Don't misunderstand--it'll be hard. Put your focus back on God so Satan doesn't steal the joy of the blessings He's given you. Put down the Kleenex and pick up your Bible. DO SOMETHING with the time God has given you! The sooner you do, the sooner God can give you what He has for you around the corner. Remember, to love God is to obey Him. You love God when you actually do what He says. That's when the blessings start to flow and the right one shows up."

PERSONAL DEVOTION THOUGHTS & POINTS TO PONDER:

1.   What are your goals, plans, desires, and dreams while you wait for God's purpose and
       plan to be fulfilled in your life?
 2.  What are your great non-negotiables?
 3.  What activities or hobbies bring you joy?
